Used Biodiesel For: Living in the inner-city makes it hard to live in a really eco-friendly way - especially once small children arrived and bikes / public transport became more limiting. Previously I used biodiesel in a Landrover in 2002, but wasn’t confident of the quality back then. Since the recent group purchases from Rozelle and Rutherford, I have become quite enthusiastic about using B100 all the time. My nearly 4 year old son is also a convert, and loves the trailers, the big drums and the hand-pumping (a little bit of farm life in the city, I guess!).
Other Comments: I must confess to feeling superior when attacked for owning a “gas-guzzling 4WD” in the city. Not only does the Pajero average > 10 litres / 100 kms (as good as many medium sized sedans) but with biodiesel I have dramatically improved emissions and no impact on the diminishing oil reserves! So I have my “I prefer biodiesel” sticker displayed proudly over the filler!
Please note: All members have their faces and number plates pixellated in these photos. Why? Because of the ridiculous Australian Tax laws regarding the home production of biodiesel. These rules essentially make these people outlaws for trying to do the right thing and run their vehicles on a fuel that does less harm to the environment. Those members who have legitimately bought the fuel excise paid, are also pixellated to help make the point.
